The Couple Next Door

Did anyone else waste their time on this steaming pile of garbage?  How on earth this ever made it to the screen is an utter mystery.

Preposterous story; unlikable, unbelievable characters; clunky script and direction; meant to be set in Leeds but the houses obviously were in Europe; and the 'exciting'denouement at the cabin in the woods (hinted at in the opening shots of the first episode) was as laughable as Sam Heughan's attempt at a Yorkshire accent.

It really was toe-curlingly embarrassing to watch.  Not only that, but it just sort of petered out - good grief, they wouldn't, couldn't inflict another series on us, could they?

Forgot to mention Hugh Dennis phoning in a 'performance'

I gave up after ep 2!!! I am put out as I really believed they were in Leeds and was getting ready to move up there only to find it was filmed elsewhere!!!!!  πŸ˜

I've just finished the second episode, I like Eleanor Tomlinson.

Have I missed why the policeman neighbour is handing over loads of cash to a woman who lives in a flat?

If I haven't missed it, will I ever know?

Some of it was filmed in Leeds, Bradford and Baildon (my son used to live in Basildon) but who knew Belgium looked like that?

I've not seen it but I have just googled 'review the couple next door tv'.  Here's a screenshot from the top of the results page:

It seems that Brainiac's opinion is widely shared!

Hugh Dennis plays a good pervert and it's nice to see Kate Robbins.

Barry, the policeman and the woman have a child.

Thanks, Scorpio, did I miss that or is it a later reveal?

To be honest, I can't remember when it was revealed πŸ™„, just that the policeman's wife followed him to the flat, then went to see the woman after he left.

It was filmed in the Netherlands ( no idea why!). From the 1st episode I found it so unbelievable that both these young ordinary working couples would have houses of that size! The whole set/plot looked as tho it was actually filmed in America. Hugh Dennis's character looked seriously ill, tho I assume that was to give him the creepy pervy neighbour look.
And yes I stuck out the first 2 episodes but found the whole thing just so odd .......

Both of us enjoyed it

Ten minutes was enough for me.  Too complicated.

I never understand why people (like the OP) realise that a programme is not to their liking...but carry on watching to the bitter end.

gingjbee, it's called masochism πŸ˜€

I watched one episode whilst OH continued reading.  I didn't bother with it again.
