I don't recall a single wall chart at my infant school in the 1950s. I learned about the planets from a book by Patrick Moore in the late 50s and no mention of giants then.

Under pressure if you don't know the answer is it not better to  guess ?

not a typical bad answer that I would have picked on

On Tenable once - name 10 countries in S. America

Not easy to get 10 out of the 12, BUT - HAWAII & HUNGARY? !!!

andres: "Under pressure if you don't know the answer is it not better to  guess ?" - yes as I said above the answer could only be Neptune or Uranus so guess one of those. Venus is a small rocky planet similar size to earth. As usual with these the answer is all but given in the question. The 4 giants are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, Jupiter is well known as the largest and Saturn is also well known as the second largest so that leaves only Neptune or Uranus. That's why it is deemed a TWAU answer.

// Jupiter is well known as the largest and Saturn is also well known as the second largest //

I didn't know that & I know most things that are "well known"!

"That's why it is deemed a TWAU answer." in your opinion.

Have you asked if they are taking applications for a new Chaser?

^^^TTT---But as some abers have said, they were never taught about the planets in school. That is what I meant by making a guess. The contestant may have known all the names of the planets but not necessarily the size.

I don't remember any lessons about space at school - can't think which standard subject it would come under - geography?

11:39, now I know that can't be true, no one is that un aware.

11:42, some people must lead very sheltered lives, how does anyone live so long without learning this sort of thing, even by accident. I think it's my suprpower again. People are just pretending to not know to make some sort of point. That's why I love doing these it makes normally sensible people contort themselves to try and make me seem the bad guy. 😁

GCEs -maths(pure&applied)/physics/chemistry/biology/french/latin/english(lang &lit)/tech drawing/

No cosmology!

you ARE a bad guy - but I like you!

TTT--you are coming over now as a person ''who 's full up and the  door shut''

Question Author

11:51, it's covered in Geography.

I don't think that not having an interest in the subject really explains managing to avoid picking up basic information over the course a lifetime. One should be able to recall the names of most of the massive and most of the tiny planets. However  IMO this is another example of the mind going blank and needing to say something. Happens to us all.

I have O level geography and planets and space were never covered. I also have A levels, an honours degree and a post-grad qualification and I have never been taught about the planets in any of my studies.

Well prudie I learnt about the solar system in primary school, much like the kids do today:

https://www.theschoolrun.com/learning-about-space-primary-school

We never had any of that as I recall - blimey we didn't even have internet access in th 1950s. Deprived or what!

TORATORATORA, in the website you linked to at 12:11, the solar system is covered under Science, not Geography...
