The main point in all these examples is that the people giving these answers have all volunteered to go on a national TV general knowledge quiz.

Do they seriously think they have a sufficiently wide general knowledge to do well?  Have thaey ever taken part in a quiz, even at their local pub, which has made them think 'Hmmm, I'm pretty good at this, I should go on TV and show everyone what I can do'?

And, as I think I've asked before: don't contestants have to undergo an audition to be chosen for the programme?

There are auditions but even those who pass are put on a three-year waiting list before appearing on the show.
