As worded ("rate of motion"), the correct answer to that question ought actually to be 'speed', even though the setter was clearly looking for 'velocity' (which is a vector).

Other way round Chris. The correct term is escape velocity. Speed is distance over time but it's not a necessarily a constant rate.
