it was discovered that the rakweed was susceptible to soundwaves of a certain frequency; when the Blathereen go to confront Sarah-Jane after their plan is thwarted, Mr Smith transmits the same frequency at them. this destroys the partially digested rakweed inside them, and the resultant methane build-up explodes them.

(that's very much a paraphrase of what happened........)
