What Are Your Favourite Old British Comedies?

I watched an episode of 'Allo 'Allo the other day and laughed just as much as I did when they were first screened.  Brilliant!  The writing is second to none.  So clever!

OFAH, Porridge, Yes Minister/Prime Minister. All clever, witty scripts and well acted . 

Some were funny at the time but haven't aged well eg Drop the Dead donkey, original Spitting Image

We watched our DVDs of Dear John recently, still a favourite.  My all time favourite is Still Game, recent favourite Two Doors Down.

I recently discovered an old Welsh sitcom that as far as I know wasn't broadcast outside Wales - High Hopes. Worth a watch if you like traditional format sitcoms.

Believe it or not 'Allo 'Allo completely passed me by - I think I might have been in France funnily enough when it started and I never caught up with it. I should go back and watch. I can still reel off "Good Moaning" though 😀

Difficult to pick one out. I return time and time again to some clips on YouTube which still make me laugh even after repeated viewings.

Clips from the likes of Two Ronnies, Vicar of Dibley, Fawlty Towers, and others. 

 

Oddly enough Allo Allo was one of two popular comedies I could never get into (Only Fools and Horses being the other), but watching YouTube clips now has me laughing away. Most peculiar. 

As for good writing, The Upstart Crow was a brilliant example IMHO.

Retro - did you know Talking Pictures (Freeview 82) are showing Dixon of Dock Green?  Also Gideon's Way and Public Eye, which really take me back - I remember my dad loved Public Eye

I've not seen it in ages, so my favourite may not have aged well...Butterflies,  focusing on a suburban housewife who yearns for more.
