What's the point in being a doormat, or fooling people by pretending you are something that you're not?

There is a middle way. It is possible to be yourself and be brave without putting people's backs up. The art of diplomacy can be learnt but the simple way is to treat others with kindness whilst being true to yourself.

Don't expect others to agree with you, respect them and their opinions and take little notice of those who don't treat you the same way

Yes it's about setting the boundaries otherwise you get pushed from pillar to post that's a good point.

no - - speak up, that is not being brave. You speak up and people ignore you. At least half the world is in that position, and you have a choice:
