that's not a bad guess

they could have answered

the morning star

would that answer have been correct ?

The north star isn't a planet.  The correct answer is Venus

Johnny - I think "Morning Star" is a perfectly correct answer. It might not be what they were looking for (venus) but it is correct.

Question Author

johnny, The "morning/evening star" is not a star it's a planet hence the question.

Or possibly Mercury?

Question Author

nope never Mercury. Mercury is visible but much much less obvious than Venus.

Question Author

traditionally the evening/morning star has always been Venus.

Question Author

Just type "what planet is the morning star" into google, end of.

mercury could be an evening star but not THE evening star

as in the question

Obviously wrong. The North Star is a pub a few miles from me !

TTT 15.21

What a pity the contestant wasn't allowed to google the answer! This discussion has been going on for over an hour, the contestant has to come up with an answer in seconds. They're in a TV studio, in unfamiliar suroundings, give them some slack.

By the way, I haven't seen you correct any pop music questions on The Chase yet.

Too true, old geezer, and the Evening Star is a steam engine (end of?)

Question Author

15:55 have a day off, what has google got to do with it? The answer is irrelevant anyway the comic fodder here is that the conestant answered with a star when the question asked for a planet. I used google to demonstrate that the morning star is Venus in response to further posts about Mercury, though 99.9% of the world already knows that.

Question Author

"By the way, I haven't seen you correct any pop music questions on The Chase yet." - when a silly answer comes up in that area then I will.

"give them some slack"...not TTT's style. Wrong answers are highly amusing, apparently. End of.

Question Author

16:26 gawd elp us! you must have seen enough of these now to notice that the actual answer is usually irrelevant. It's either the sillyness of the answer given or the fact that the wrong answer is given even though the correctr answer is in the question.

16.29...oh yes, seen enough of these now...and your monotonous explanations for why you post them.

However, they are not funny - to most grown-ups.

Question Author

"oh yes, seen enough of these now...and your monotonous explanations for why you post them." - ....and yet it still fails to penetrate! Right oh! Must me my superpower again!
