Whilst channel hopping I stumbled across an old episode of 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Not sure how popular it used to be but I remember watching an episode years ago and thought it was quite funny, but today - I watched it and just couldn't believe that anyone ever watched it! Was just so, well, unfunny lol. Or is it just me??

Anyone feel the same bout any other programmes??

"Last of the Summer Wine"  Rubbish!!!!!!

I never get bored of Porridge, and might rewatch an Only Fools ep if there's nothing else on...and let's face it, on Gold there never is anything else on 😝

Hetty Wainthrop ?

Does anybody remember "The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs" with David Jason? Just 1 13-episode series in 1974. I've never seen or heard anything about it since; it seemed funny at the time but I don't think I'd go much for it nowadays.

'Not Going Out' is 'not going on' in my house!

Sorry starting Ronnie Corbett and Open all Hours, with the other Ronnie, Barker.

Both were dire.

Question Author

Oh I agree about Not Going Out!

PR did an excellent "Talking Heads" by Alan Bennet.

Among other shows, Roy Clarke wrote "Keeping Up" and "Summer Wine", but the only show of his I can bear to watch is Open All Hours, and that's probably due to the presence of Ronnie Barker (and David Jason too).

Ronnie Barker was basically a comedy God.

Question Author

I didn't realise that P.R was still alive - she's 95!

Question Author

Agree about Porridge - so funny.

But the Acme of crap sitcoms is "Are You Being Served?" Pure s*it then, unwatchable now. Another example of a show saved by one actor, in this case Mollie Sugden.

TLC:
'Last of the Summer Wine" is pure comedy gold.  I've seen every single episode dozens of times!

Are there any fans of 'Miranda' here?  (I'm most definitely not in that group!)

SMOW, even if you had watched Steptoe and Son, I doubt you'd mind on Patricia Routledge being in it.

She appeared in it only the once, playing a clairvoyant in a 1974 episode.

Clarence was slated but I quite liked it

One of the great mysteries of life is how Citizen Khan ran for FIVE series despite never being remotely funny.

Question Author

Nope  I didn't like Miranda either!

I used to find steptoe and son amusing back in the day, now I can't abide it. Most old situation comedy's do not age very well.
