Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what was in Ruth Ellis' (The last women 2 be hanged) will, or where i could find out what was in it?
Thanks in anticipation

Back in the 1950's hardly anybody (other than the the very rich) bothered with wills. It's extremely unlikely that a nightclub hostess in her 20's would have written a will prior to her arrest for murder. Unless she owned any property (unlikely) she probably never wrote a will prior to her execution either. (It's far more likely that she'll have just told her family that "I want X to have my jewellery", etc).
If you're sure that Ruth Ellis did leave a will, then (like all 'proved' wills) it will be a public document. Contact the Probate Registry for details of how to obtain a copy, or see here:

My grandada wrote a will in 1960 and he was a Cheshire tenant farmer. I have my great grandad's will and he was a stonemason, he left his best suit to his partner and his tools to his 14 sons. Since 1858 when the granting of probate was taken from the Church courts and into the civil probate jurisdictions, wills were proven at local probate offices that relaste to the residence at time of death. These are indexed Nationally by year and alphabetically by surname. At the back of earlier volumes are Letters of Administartion granted to next of kin where the deceased died intestate,(left no will). It is interesting to read the breif outline of the wills in the index, the value of the estate is recorded and there are amounts from just a few hundred up to millions. The Calendar of Wills will usually be available at the County record Office/
