How did the SNP help to propel Mrs Thatcher into power? It's true that they supported a motion of No Confidence in the Callaghan administration which led to the election in May 1979, but one would have to have been held in October of that year anyway. So at the most, their action brought forward the Thatcher government by five months. Unless of course you are suggesting that an election held five months later would have resulted in a significantly different outcome.
