When using videoplus to record a Sky programme, how does the number communicate to both the video, and the Sky box to change channel as well?

On ours it doesn't. The videoplus assumes you have allocated channel AV to the sky box. We then have to set an autoview on sky to make sure it records the correct program when using videoplus numbers.

That's what I would have assumed. I have cable and wouldn't dare to ask it to go on videoplus as it uses channel 6 and would probably ignore the instructions I gave it.

I would assume at least some Sky boxes would have responders built in to automatically shift channels or they wouldn't advertise the videoplus codes for it. Or maybe it's all a scam!

You need to use the autoview function. It does work David H!!! Although, why not treat yourself to Sky+? and throw your nasty old fashioned video away!!!!

If I had the cash I would consider it, but I'd lose all my cable perks and have to go 'back to BT' for phone and internet, and my rental is half that of BT broadband.

Up to date cable viewers can also manually set the cable channel to change in advance, then synchronise the video to record each channel switch. But we don't have any interactive facilities as we're only in London and can't be expected to have modern facilities ;-)

One doesn't actually have to have a BT phone line for Sky. As long as one has an operational phone line which can make incoming and outgoing calls, it doesn't matter who your phone provider is.
