Could be Helvellyn if they have misspelt it.

Cashier - my thought too if they had HELLvellyn, with HELL as the fiery start.

Question Author

Thank you both - that's what I was thinking but talked myself out of it as the compiler is a friend & I would have been notified I'm sure if there had been an error.  Now that 3 of us are thinking the same I will ask the question!  I will be back ......thanks meantime

Question Author

Sorry to say I've been told amount of letters is correct!

dragon hill

^

not sure I would call it a mountain though  !!

more a hillock   !

a bit iffy = cairngorms ?

cairngorms is a range of mountains Canary, as opposed to an individual peak

that's singular, cairngorm is a mountain, cairngorms is a range of mountains

Are you sure the name is one word?

Question Author

Yes - definitely one word ....I checked with compiler today and she confirmed no error made! Sorry - I've been trying to get  the answer for ages!

Wikipedia has a list of more than 2,500 mountains in the UK.

I copied and pasted it to an excel spreadsheet and sorted out the one word names (no hyphen) with ten letters and there are twenty-nine.

All but a couple are Gaelic or Irish Gaelic so I checked their meanings but nothing hinting at "a firey start".

Question Author

That's not good news Thecorbyloon .......many many thanks for trying - will keep thinking!

been googling for well over an hour to see if dragon hill appears anywhere as one word, but can't find anything.

OK Sam, you win 😀 (I did say it was iffy😉)

I'd be tempted to check again, and ask the compiler to google the answer they are expecting and count the letters. Helvellyn seems to be a really good offer to me.

It must be the misspelt Hellvellyn as suggested already.
