I finished the last of the series last night - and I didn't want it to end.  What an absolutely superb production.  We moan about the BBC but as seriously grown-up drama goes no one does it like them.   Their Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle knocked spots off any other version.  They do it so very - very - well!

Do you have any to add to the list?

I am still watching Wolf Hall.  It really is fantastic.

One for the list is Happy Valley.  That was gripping.

Brilliant production and acting that I hope will win lots  of awards. Another of my favourite costume drama is Cranford with Judi Dench and Eileen Atkins

I agree with Barmaid and Rosetta in their praise of Wolf Hall. I am not easily impressed, but I was certainly impressed by the sheer quality of Wolf Hall's acting, costumes, and sets. Good show, chaps!

Naomi24: you might find this information about Thomas Cromwell interesting:

Bleak Hall. It almost persuaded me to try reading Dickens, again......almost. 😃

We saw the trailer for Wolf Hall and realised that we had somehow missed the 1st series. So we are watching that, will follow up with the 2nd, it is excellent.

Thanks bookbinder.  The discussion following that is interesting.  Varied opinions on how history regards him.

ubasses, I had to start with series 1.  I hadn't watched it at all.  I can hardly believe what I almost missed!

By a country mile, the best tv this year. If Wolf Fall does not garner a shed-load of awards, there's no justice.

Mark Rylance was almost mesmerising as Cromwell and, through both series, he was aided by stellar performances.

I said in an earlier thread that i didn't want him to die (obvs i know he did) but that would be like watching Titanic and not expecting it to sink.

I will, in due course, watch both series 1 and 2 again.
