Hi everyone, I hope that you all had a pleasant Christmas and are now well fortified enough to enjoy the final K M Giant Crossword Links game of the year.  I saw your message Steff while trying to work out the answer to the 3rd clue (and I still haven't solved it yet). Here are the clues:

4d. From the Latin for “feathers”, word for quills or writing instruments, such as the styli with which schoolmaster Cassian of Imola was stabbed to death by his own students (4)

22d. Any one of the flat dishes spun on sticks when performing a real or metaphorical balancing act (5)

47d. Any one of Carl Linnaeus’s blooms, blossoms or buds arranged like a clock so that their opening or closing hypothetically indicates the time (6)

52d. Secret system of signalling, such as semaphore or Morse; or, a cipher (4)
