Yes, £400 for two single train fares is not uncommon

£67.90

Shows what a rip-off these private train companies are.

A senior railcard helps. We've just booked two tickets from King's Cross to Edinburgh return. £ 199.00

I'm worried that Barry would even consider looking at the Trainline website, as
(a) you can encounter booking fees there ; and
(b) they have a nasty habit of getting things wrong (e.g. by offerin tickets only valid on Operator A's services for trains run by Operator B).

train prices are utterly ridiculous.

especially if more than 1 person wants to go.  I remember wanting to take my m-i-l to see her new grandchild from hampshire to exeter.  For the 3 of us it was well over £300.

Crewe doesn't have an airport; nearest one is Manchester. So, presumably, have to add on cost of train from Manchester airport to Crewe.
