Hinari "Lifestyle" Microwave Oven (model no. MX676TCGM)

I am disappointed to discover a circle of rust appearing in the groove under the glass plate, caused presumably by condensation (my first ever microwave, circa 1980, had a stainless steel interior, so this was never a problem). Whilst the machine is no longer under guarantee, I would like to think there's a bit more life in it yet at less that 4 years old.

  • Any ideas on how I could treat/paint this area?

  • Is the safety of the unit compromised?

  • I would like to email Hinari about the problem - any ideas about an address for them? My instruction book only has a phone no. which I resent paying to use!

I'd be grateful for any help. Cheers

I had a rust problem with a microwave years ago, it had a white or cream interior so I cleaned the rust and gave it the spot a dab of paint, similar colour. No more problem! It didn't look too professional, if you looked closely, but who checks out the interior of a microwave and give it points out of 10 for style? If yours is stainless steel, there are silvery enamel paints (tiny little pots) that should do the trick. Treat the rust first with a rust inhibitor, after sanding it smooth. Oh, you could use Hammerite I suppose, that comes in silver, and you can get it in 'smooth' rather than the usual dimpled.
