What was this police drama?? 2004/5

My mum's been banging on about this programme that she can't remember the name of. Please help me cos I haven't got a clue what she's on about. All she can remember is that the main character is a black policeman in his 30's, and he has an affair with a legal advisor, played by Dervla Kirwen. He lives with a young boy, who's father went into prison. There's a Scottish detective inspector who fancies one of the policewomen who work under him. If anyone can help I'd be reeeeeeeally grateful. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I remember this, it had a his name in the title, the guys name but the name was also something else and so it was an irony..

I think she's talking about 55 Degrees North. It's about a policeman who moves from London (I think) to Newcastle.

It was definitely 55 degrees north, there will be a new series to be screened on the BBC later this year!

Thank you thank you everyone!! I would never of remembered it as I never watched it myself. Am I the only one who thinks there are way too many police dramas on TV? And yes Annie7, Dark Crystal rocks! I wanted to call our cat Fizzgig cos she's a tortoiseshell but chose Willow instead after the film, not Buffy's wiccan pal. I rashly agreed to give my goddaughter my Dark Crystal and Labyrinth videos and haven't round to replacing them on DVD yet! Thanks again everyone!
