Does anyone know why some of the scenes in Alfie were filmed on Thomas Street in Manchester, in particular the street scenes that were set around the diner??

Money probably. It was a mainly British production.Cheaper and easier to film in Manchester than in New York. Bits of manchester look a little bit like NYC. Got a few extra scenes to film - shall we spend loads of money going back to new york or shall we just pop up to Manchester?
Of course Jude Law started his acting career right here in manchester on family ties.
was definately the money thing. I am from Liverpool and there was loads of press about the filming. Reason was cash and cash alone. Was cheaper to film here than in new york.
