michael jacksons accidental award acceptance?

what happened after this? when he got up on stage at an awards ceremony and thought britney spears was giving him and special award for outstanding contibution to music. did they just let him keep it and say nothing or did they have to take it off him and explain - how did he react?

everyone just let him ramble on and thank people and nobody tried to stop him.

I don't think they made a public show of it. They just had a quiet word with him when he went off.

They took his award away, but he did get to keep the big cake.

at the 2002 mtv award, britney was supposed to present MJ with a special birthday cake, but as she was announcing the surprise, she used the words ' artist of the millenium' (in her eyes) and he came on stage, picked up a trophy that was on the stand and meant for someone else and start to thank everyone for receiving this "artist of the millenium award"

no-one stopped him or corrected him, they just let him ramble on thinking he'd won this award.

i just wondered what had happened afterwards off stage

i wondered if they had hastily created this award and let him keep it or took the trophy away and explained what he had just done...
