I know you should never judge a film before you;ve seen it, but does anyone else think that the new Pink Panther film has 'stinker' written all over it?

Peter Sellars was Cleusseu, in the same way that Phil Silvers was Bilko. What's going on with these people that they think Steve Martin - surely up there with Reg Varney as one of the most un-funny people ever to appear in a film - is going to be a success in re-creating (?) these classic roles?

Straight to video - Steve, take a look at your 'abilities' and get on with Father Of The Bride 3 - 20, then retire.

Agreed Andy - it's a cert to be a stinker. You just cannot improve on the original Peter Sellers performance, the films are classics. I actually quite like some Steve Martin films ( Man With Two Brains and Parenthood are quite amusing IMHO) but I just can't see him as Clouseau. Bad idea from the off.

I saw the trailer for this, which made me laugh out loud, but I don't think it has got very good reviews so far. Having said that, comedy is such a subjective genre - one man's meat...etc. Some of my favourite comedies got bad reviews.

Steve Martin's earlier films were hilarious - The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, but I haven't been a big fan of his recent stuff - even the one's that were well received - Bowfinger was pretty over-rated IMO.

Nevertheless, I will probably have a look at The Pink Panther, especially if I can download it for nothing!

i agree the only funny bit in the movie was when he was trying to say hamburger
Looking at the trailer it looks crap, like his last 20 films or so. He shud retire

i think it looks funny. and i also think steve martin is a funny guy. dont judge him on his father of the bride-esque roles. man with 2 brains is hilarious as are most of his comedy roles.

it's ok to like this film ya know. people always slate remakes.... but they're not recording over the original ya know.

I'm not slating it for being a re-make gutfish, I'm not really in a position to slate it at all because I have't seen it but ...

some film and TV characters are inextricably linked with the actors who play them, Bilko and Cleusseau are just two of them, and it will be impossible not to make comparisons.

History should have shown Mr Martin that re-making Bilko was a disaster that everyone else seemed to see coming, and that has to give bad vibes about this.

Re-makes, or even re-casting a role are rarely successful - ask any of the actors who have followed Sean Connery as James Bond.

I probably won't bother seeing the film because I don't like Steve Martin anyway, but I'm tipping he is riding for a fall on this one.

We'll see.
