Blade Runner,,,,,,,best sci-fi film of all time?

I'm a big sci-fi film fan ,I loved all the star wars films ,especially the first three. In the early days when I was a teenager I loved films like the 'planet of the apes' ,'soylent green' ,and a 'clockwork orange' ,to name a few,,but I'm wondering what you lot think is the greatest sci-fi film of all time?...........

Big Blade runner fan here, when I first saw it it left an impression on me for days afterwards. More recently, I think Equilibrium is excellent. Also the first Matrix was great, sadly the others were not!

Equilibrium - was that the one starring Batman (cant remember his real name), which was a bit like Matrix

Glad someones mentioned the first Matrix,that's got to be in my top 10 sci-fi films,,shame about 2&3..Anyone seen,I think it's called' Dark city',I remember it starred Kiefer Sutherland,it came out before the Matrix,but it had a similiar story line ,it had some really wierd ideas,,might be worth watching again..What's the name of that recent Russian sci-fi film some people were 'ravin' about??

Does "Twelve Monkeys " count as sci-fi? Only watched it once as the storyline seemed so powerful. Probably due to watch it again. Also quite like Vanilla Sky. Blade Runner great. Star Wars great. A few of the Star Trek films are great. What about Stargate? I. Robot ranks quite highly. What about "The Day the Earth Stood Still?" Didn't like the ending of AI. ET is a great film. So is "Close Encounters of the 3rd kind." I'll bet there's a few obscure ones too!!!!

I love all the old Sci-Fi films, "The Day the Earth Caught Fire", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", "A Crack in the World", and "Forbidden Planet" scared me to death when I was little and War of the Worlds is far superior to the modern re-make. (Has anyone seen the spoof version with the rabbits......it is hillarious, and very accurate).

Does John Carpenter's "The Thing" count as Sci-Fi? That is brilliant.

Pebbles,,,,,forgot about The Thing,pure sci-fi,,The remake starring Kurt Russel,featured some of the best special effects for it's time....I also loved all those 50's and 60's films that you mentioned,,it was also a great time for sci-fi tv programmes,,,,,who could forget all those great Outer Limits ,and Twilight Zone episodes,,plus our own Quattermass experiment and The Prisoner and Doctor Who..........
