How does that work - hhow do you know if you have received a text does the phone just ring? What if you're not in
Do you need an expensive handset? do you pay more for line rental to enjoy this service?
can someone explain it to me - Thanks

The landline phone will ring & when you answer you get a robotic message doing its best to translate the text message. In my experience it usually does a pretty good job.
If you're not in it will leave a message. If you don't have an answer machine or vm then I'm not sure what happens.
you can text from a landline phone you have to have a telephone handset thats capeable of this look for one with sms/text service and theyre not overly expensive either i think you can get them for about 40 may b less you dont have to pay any more line rental for this or subscribe to anything you just set it up on the phone and away you go just like a mobile i think it costs about 12p a message but may vary depending on the phone company
i think if you dont have an answering machine it will keep ringing you back until you get it. you can set it up to be off during the night though, i think 11pm is the default and then you would just get it in the morning. I know this is like, so immature lol but if you text something rude to a landline and listen to the voice saying it, its quite funny!
