It is set in New York, in the movie it is set in the 'meatpacking' district, but in real life there is an actual coyote ugly bar in the east village. The film was based around the real bar.

What's the bar like? sounds like a good laugh.

Really grubby and dirty and dingy. Full of old men and marines. A good night out though, but dont wear open toe shoes as the toilets flood and the water pours down the corridor!

And the girls do more than dance on the bar!
