Am I the only person in this country who is sick to the back teeth of no win no fee adverts promising you the earth, with 'actors' saying how good these companies are and how much money they've managed to cream from the system with the claims ?

There is no legal aid for injury claims any more, and your insurance won't generally cover such claims - it will only cover a claim for what is actually insured, such as a car damaged in an accident. The vast majority of people genuinely injured due to someone else's negligence therefore have no option but to go to one of these companies. Most claims are not from people slipping on wet floors or putting their hands in pitch, but people (including children) hurt in car accidents because of bad drivers.
I'm not defending the ads but rather the service the companies behind them offer, which is perfectly legitimate. I've never seen one that says every accident must be someone else's fault. Sometimes they are someone else's fault, in which case if you're injured you're entitled to compensation. I don't see a problem with that. Also bear in mind the claims have to be considered to have a 50% or better chance of success so it's unlikely that a ridiculous case or a complete try-on would be accepted. I know people worry about compensation culture, and with some justification, but if someone close to you was seriously hurt you might have to use the services of one of these companies because there would be no other way of funding the claim. (I don't work for them by the way!)
