Can anyone shed any light on the true significance of the Cowboy's role/s (as it appears multifaceted) in the film. Also, does anyone else believe Diane to be the monster at the cafe (i.e. where she arranged for Rita to be killed). Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Chrz.

i think the cowboy represents all the unanswered mysteries of the film...david lynch's films are never supposed to be fully transparent....and yes, i think u are right..diane IS the monster at the cafe for sure. isn't it just a brilliant flick?!

Hi, Planetpetey. Thanks, I really enjoyed it too - I saw it last week for the sixth time. I completely agree that because it is working on so many different levels, there is a big amount of conjecture that can be applied to so many aspects of the film, but I am sure the fundamental plot really is along very solid lines. Watching it so many times I am amazed how little you see first time around (I speak for myself). I have come to the conclusion that the cowboy is enforcer for the dark (and of course illusory) forces being used to bring the fates back into line. And that too much talking does absolutely nothing for the poignancy and plain brilliance of the film. So I'm going to shut up. Thanks again, Ben.
