I was supposed to be going to see Rent at the cinema this evening, but apparently it's not on at any cinemas within 40 miles of Birmingham. It's only been out 2 weeks so why has it been pulled from cinemas already?

it's possible that the film was only distributed to certain cinemas, not all. It's a real pain. I live within 30 miles of three multiplexes, but they only get about half the big releases, and very few smaller movies.

I doubt that it was "pulled"; these decisions are usually commercially-driven - ie the film wasn't doing well, so why waste screens on it?

Another possibility was that it was a deliberately small release. This means that the film is reviewed in the nationals and on film shows, so the great unwashed have heard of it when it turns up on DVD, but doesn't cost a lot in terms of distribution and prints.
