'scuse my spellin there! I thought i'd just add i was born in 1982 ... so any before or after then would be great?? Penny Crayon , the Nessies, Samuri Pizza Cats, Killer Tomatoes, Thunder Cats, Green Fingers, Danger Mouse .... :o)
Jackanory, Stig of the Dump, Hectors House, Pippin, H R Puffenstuff
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/1011/ Loads here to start you off - My favourites were mysterious Cities of Gold and Pipkins ( the ostrich who spoke with a French accent - you might not remember that one, but magic all the same!) Stig of the Dump - a great serial!
Dungeons & Dragons, Sports Billy (no one remembers that one!), Defenders of the Earth, Willo the Wisp, the Moomins (slightly dark), Dogtanian, the short-lived Caribbean-set 'Runaway Bay'?
ok how's about these then....chorlton and the wheelies....terrahawks.....rhubarb and custard......and the best one of them all...altogether now...Jamie..Jamie....Jamie and the Magic Torch....down the helter skelter..faster and faster...i'm off on one........
Touche turtle, Noah and Nelly, Secret Squirrel, Batfink, Captain Caveman, Tickle on The Tum, Chocabloc, Battle of the Planets, Yogi Bear, Topcat. Have to agree though that Jamie and his magic torch was cool.
Chorlton and the Wheelies!! I loved that show. And Jamie n the Magic Torch, I watch that for the theme tune alone. Talking of theme tunes, ...Maybe tomorrow, I'll wanna settle down, Until tomorrow, I'll just keep movin' on and who can forget, ...At your party, be a smarty and hire... Rentaghost... And what about James the Cat, Record Breakers, Jim'll Fix it, You and Me, Mr Ben and my all time favourite, Tiswas.
Can't believe there's been no mention of Inspector Gadget or 80 Days Around The World With Willie Fog.

How could i forget Jamie and the Magic torch! The Moomin's .... was any one else scared by that cartoon? creeped me out! especially that black scribble thing that lived in the forest! Thomas the Tank Engines theme tune used to freak me out for some reason? lol What was that programme called where it was a puppet called Samiad who lived in the sand and granted wishes? T x
Re your fear of the Moomins cartoon, Tizzy - totally agree with you, and I'm older than you so I don't think the fear factor was aimed at kids alone. If you're brave enough, go to http://users.tinyworld.co.uk/moomin_troll/music.ht

for a rather spine-chilling experience! That 'Samiad' question has got me thinking now too!
re: scary moomins, what about that abstract egg with rotor blades...Ludvig. I had nightmares about that thing.
What about the Flumps with Pootle, Posie and Perkin and Willo the Wisp with Evil Edna et al!!
Just seen that Shelley 2002 had already mentioned Willo the Wisp. Anyone know the name of the programme with the theme tune "Hey look's that me, doing what I wanna do, being what I wanna be"??? All I remember is a guy on a bicycle towing a little caravan? Also, perhaps not strictly a kids' programme, but I used to love Monkey, that strange Japanese series.

How about the Trap Door 'dont u open that trapdoor, cos theres something down there! muhahahaha' oh and not forgettin Count Duckula .... personally i think David Jason was the best narrator for kiddies cartoons what with Danger Mouse and that!!
Here comes.....Bod! Mr. Benn, The Kids Of Degrassi Street, Paddington, Grange Hill (when it still had the classic 'flying sausage on fork' titles), Think Of A Number/Think Again, Captain Zep, Wildtrack, Fraggle Rock, Number 73.
Nobody mentioned The Clangers!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone remember Marine Boy, he used to eat brown sweets that looked like Victory V's that enabled him to breath underwater, used to be on 9am on a Saturday morning.
What about Captain Pugwash and his dubiously named merry men!! Seaman Staines, Tom the Cabin Boy etc........
