In the American version, it is an American ship with American actors and the positioning of the iceberg is blamed on international terrorists, Bruce Willis plays a seemingly innocent ship engineer, when he is actually a former counter terrorist operative from the CIA, he stumbles across the terrorists plan and at the last minute steers the ship to safety before going after the terrorists who despite not knowing who he is have kidnapped members of his family and are holding them hostage in a remote location guarded by totally inept footsoldiers who, despite firing millions of rounds of ammo at him when he attempts a rescue, couldn't hit a double decker bus with a handful of frozen peas. He naturally kills all in sight before being commended by the President for upholding all that is good and free in the world, just then the terrorist boss who the audience thinks was dead wakes up for one last attempt at revenge when our hero's back is turned only for the friendly ship's cabin boy who has never used a gun in the past but knows how to release the safety catch, aim accurately and shoot the guy between the eyes all in the same movement and saves his life in a truly unpredictable ending.
