What happens when you play a non wide screen video on a wide screen TV & what happens when you watch normal terrestrial TV stations on a wide screen TV?

Hi David - you either watch it with black edges left and right or you fill the screen and make the people look fat!
My TV 'stretches' the outer edges of a 'normal' signal - it looks sort of OK. You do notice it, however when there are figures standing at the edge of the screen - they do look (as ralph1953 says) slightly portly!
My TV has a button on the remote so that you can change the screen format depending on how you want to view - with or without black edges.
