Freeview availability

The freeview website is telling me the service is unavailable in my area.I have heard that if a rooftop aerial is erected i should be ok. Anyone know anymore on the subject?

If the website says it is unavailable then take their word for it. I was told it was available where I live but for me and half a dozen neighbours it is not (block of flats in direct line with transmitter). My ordinary analogue reception had deteriorated considerably over the previous couple of years and I was virtually forced to change out to something else.

Sky's "Freesat" is a viable alternative and, if you need a new aerial, will probably cost about the same. They charge �150 for a box, dish and viewing card, all fitted. You get all the Freeview channels, plus a good few more of the Sky free transmissions, as well as all the BBC1 regional programmes. There is no subscription after you've paid your �150 and Sky covers over 98% of the country. (I'll take my commission now, Mr Murdoch!)
