Topcat or Bosscat ?

I've been told that the cartoon was changed to "Bosscat" for the UK, as Topcat was the same name as a cat food at the time. Can anyone confirm this as it's news to me !

yup, its true. it will always be topcat to me though

Yes it's true ~ It always used to confuse me when I was a kid ~ I remember asking my mum why it was called 'Boss Cat' when the opening credits said 'Top Cat', the song went 'Top Cat' & the other cats called him TC.


Blimmin BBC trying to pull the wool over childrens eyes..tsk ;o)

Yes it is true, but that only appies to it's original screening on the BBC.


I always remember the way the "Boss Cat" caption card was spliced onto the end of the opening credits, and during the closing credits, the titles and song would jump as the Beeb edited out another "Top Cat" caption.


Now that Top Cat the cat food is no longer around, the Beeb quite happily re-screen it as Top Cat
