Years ago Simon Mayo had a major issue with Benny Hills' Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West being re-released. Other than it being a dreadful song, I seem to remember he refused point blank to play it & I think he got himself into bother with the BBC bosses for not playing it, but I can't remember why, can anyone help?
The following is a good link for a blast from the past but it doesn't help with my question! http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/index.html
Wasn't sure if this should be in music or not, sorry if not!

Point Two, Simon Mayo was, and is, a musical and cultureal snob. Listen to the album shcart show and hear the contempt dripping from his voice, because frankly he feels he is rather above all this pop nonsense now.
I interviewed him once, and he told me about how a friend at school punched his lights out - having met him as an adult, and imagining him at school, I'm surprised his friend stopped there - I'd have torn his odious pompous nauseating head off!
