Cable TV

Hi Everyone,

This might seem like a stupid question, but i haven't got a clue.

I've been looking at the Eurovox and Technomate etc, cable boxes and just want to know how they work. Do you need to subscribe to cable to get the channels? do you need a dish for them?

I have an old Cable and wireless AV box which i have my TV plugged into. When i searched for the channels it found an NTL screen, do these receivers bypass these and Locate the channels?

Finally are the receivers any good?
