Sorry i forgot to put my own choices in!

Best - Columbo

Worst - Mayo

Best: Angel

Worst; The Pinkerton Agent in Alias Smith & Jones

I just love Frost

Don't like poirot,

I love Jessica Fletcher, and Murder, She Wrote is my guilty pleasure. I have the first two seasons on DVD! She may not strictly be a detective, but she solves the case before any of the real detectives do, so she's good enough for me! And I agree with you chimney, I don't like Mayo either. I've never actually watched it, but I can't stand the bloke who plays him, and what a stupid name anyway, Mayo!

Best detective series: New Tricks

Best detective: Foyle (Foyle's War)

Worst detective series: Murder in Suburbia

Worst detective: Mayo.

Best:Miss Marple (Joan Hickson, don't like Marple PI on ITV)

Morse

Monk

Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett)

Jim Rockford

Maigret (Michael Gambon)

Daziel and Pascoe

Worst:

Frost (sorry,I cannot take to this series)

Columbo (what's the point, when the murderer is identified straight away)

Diagnosis Murder (oh,purlease)

Ta Ta

Marky B

the detectives - jasper carrot and robert powell
hamish macbeth

I see your point about Columbo Marky b, but I like how he gathers the evidence and befriends the murderer.

I don't think i've ever seen Angel, who's in it?

Columbo's actually my no. 1. I also enjoy his methodology and his knowing game of cat-and-mouse with the murderer.

I'll put Marple last. Like Marky I liked Joan H. However, Geraldine McEwan has rendered the series all but unwatchable to me. I dislike her tics and giggles and her portrayal of Jane as a benign version of Diana Trent from Waiting For God.

FYI Chimney: Angel is David Boreanaz, a kind of supernatural PI spinoff from Buffy.

Monk is great

The "Life On Mars" lot are superb

Angel (isnt that the Buffy Vampire Slayer spin-off)

Morse and Columbo are still watchable

Yeah, Life On Mars for me as the best. The Sweeney, Sherlock Holmes were all good too.

Don't really have a worst.

Question Author

I agree about Life on Mars being brilliant, but I don't really see it as a detective show.

Tell you what though, if that Jessica Fletcher turned up at my house, i'd start sweating and watching my back, there's bound to be trouble!

Alias Smith & Jones Pinkerton Detective was played by JD Cannon who was also Chief Peter B Clifford in McCloud.Didn't Harry turn bad in the end?
yes he did marwel well remembered, my mind would not let me remember JD Cannon for some reason.
just checked and he died in may 2005, didn't realise that. Dennis Weaver died the other month.

I like the NewTricks show

Hate Columbo and Murder She wrote mainly I suppose because there are so many and they are constantly on one of the cable channels (which my wife has on all the time). Not very keen on Scooby Doo either!!!

why is jessica fletcher never a suspect?

if i was a cop and some old biddy was nearby at every single murder scene for the last 10 years - and one that has huge interest is murder/crime stories! - i'd start to be suspicious!

Best
Andy Dalziel
Burnside
Jack Meadows
Mr Chisholm (Minder)

Worst
Derrick
Jim Carver
Inspector Morse
That bloke from Jersey
