1960's Film (Balloon)

When I was at junior school in the sixties - remember watching a film (no speaking, just music) about a little girl with a balloon that flies off out of her hand and you follow the balloon all over a village ??? its a bit of a hazy memory, might have got it a bit wrong - can anyone help me ??

Not a girl, not a village, but this is a very famous balloon film from about that time. I watched it in the 60's too.

If it was boy, and set in Paris, it would be "The Red Balloon" ("Le Ballon Rouge").

I used to love this film as a child and videoed it when it was last shown on TV about 20 years ago. I went to New York last year and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art discovered that they had a picture book of the film (which I bought) and a video of it, which I didn't buy as obviously it wouldn't have played over here. If only they'd had it on DVD!!!!!!!!!!

Spudqueen, don't know if you'll see this - and I know it's too late anyway - but be aware many UK video's can actually play American NTSC tapes. A slight loss of quality maybe, but being able to play them has pretty much been the standard for the last five years at least.

Postdog - yes, our previous video player could play American videos, but in black and white only. I do have my own copy (I hope it still works - not played it for years!) which I taped off the TV, I just wish it was out on DVD.
