We are thinking of signing up for Freeview and wondered whether we would have to get a new aerial - the one we have at the moment is ancient! If we would need a new aerial, has anyone any idea how much this might cost us?

Thank you in advance!

good luck
if its so old it may be a good idea to get a new one .a good one can be fitted for as little as 50 quid.
You do not need to sign up for Freeview.

You just buy a Freeview box, plug it in, tune it to the various channels, and just watch.

Why not buy a Freeview box and THEN see if you need a new aerial.
In reply:

If your TV aerial is 'ancient' as you say, you don't necessarily have to buy a new one.

Instead, look in the Argos catalogue for TV aerials that are compatible with Freeview - it clearly states which ones are, and which ones aren't. So, instead of shelling out 50 odd quid for a new one, just get an aerial that you plugs directly into your TV. It helps if you get one with a booster, which costs around 10.
if your aerial is providing you with an ok picture now it should do just fine. 20 quid in argos at the moment. You might as well get a cheap one cause they just break anyway.
I hear Freeview works in tons of areas now but a postcode check is recommended before you purchase a box. However, if you find some channels have a stronger signal than others (as I did) I recommend that you use good quality coaxial cable. Even if you don't have a fantastically good aerial (like me) a decent cable will help greatly ;-)
