i love that film its always been eerie to me and i heard a rumour a few years back that it WAS a true story according to this link it seems it is,what do you believe,,really?http://www.abc.net.au/tv/rewind/txt/s1168554.h tm
Nah.......makes it seem more romantic - but none of my film books say otherwise.......in fact none of them even suggest that it could be based on fact......which they like to do, because they feel that it draws more people because of...
For me, it's one of those films that I was interested to see as I'd heard good things about it, and how atmospheric and spooky it was... only to find it very, very dull.
And this isn't a "I hate slow films" thing. There are plenty of slow-paced, atmospheric films that I love, but this one - and I've given it more than one go - sends me into a coma. I gather it is indeed inspired by real events.
This has to be one of the most beautifully photographed and evocative films ever made. It leaves a spell that makes you want to believe every word is true, but sadly it is fiction.
An Australian girl who lived near the rock once told me that Anne Louise lambert visited the place every year as a sort of celebration as well as a thank you to everyone involved in the film. Whenever I read the book I imagine it 's true - a bit of magic is harmless and also very good for you!
I though the story to be reality! Well, what about that!
With Peter Weir as director. Yes, the film IS indeed magical and is myth-making at its most spell-binding. It's almost dream-like; all slow-motion and lingering camera-shots.
And made the man with the pan-pipes, Georghe Zamphir (sp?), something of a star.
