watching "the bachelor" the other night, chris's character mentioned a book called the lottery where a town had a lottery to be a sacrifice. does anyone know if this book is real? and who it's by?

I remember reading 'The Lottery' in one of my 'Pan Book of Horror Stories' collection years ago. It freaked me out big time! it's a short story, but well worth a read.

yes, the way she writes it, you don't realise what's happening until the very end. Great story.

I remember reading it in high school (and that was the '70s). It's by Shirley Jackson, and it's a nicely creepy little tale. It's so simple and so chilling.
