Does anyone remember a programme called Chorlton & the Wheelies? I used to love it when I was little but whenever I mention it to people they look at me as if I'm slightly mad!! Please tell me I didn't dream it as I am obviously seriously unwell if I did LOL

Thanks for saving my sanity. Yes I'm 35 so it must have been our era! On DVD? WOW I might have to get that just to prove it to all the doubters :)

Bye... Bye... Little old lady.... :)

Fenella the witch... classic :)
The bloke who wrote the theme is Joe Griffiths. For about 4 years he was in the longest running cabaret act in London at the Tramshed in Woolwich. He was part of a group called Fundation which did loads of comedy sketches and musical numbers. You had to get there 2 hours early to get a seat and I nearly broke my chuckle muscle several times! Also in the group were Hale & Pace (before they became famous) and we had Jasper Carrott come and try out his material for a live TV show once. Anyway, during a costume change (or something) Joe would start playing some classical piece on the piano, but after about 30 seconds it would descend into the Chorlton & Wheelies theme. Everybody starts clapping and stamping along with the tune and he would just go faster and faster, until he finished with a final flourish and resounding cheers. It was absolutely brilliant!
All together now, everybody!

Jump in, we'll take you for a spin,
and show you round the Wheelie World
Hop on it's fun to come along,
And take a look at Wheelie World.
You'll be surprised how good it feels.
To zoom around, oh yeh you'll wheel so merrily
Whoopee!
You don't need a ticket,
For we'll take you on for free
And if you see the witch Fenella,
Don't be worried, 'cos there's no cause for alarm.
(ha ha ha ha)
'Cos we've got Chorlton, who's a dragon,
He will keep you free from harm
(ho ho ho ho)
It's fun at any time of year.
So put your wheels in second gear,
And then hold tight,
Alright,
We'll show you all the sights
Of Wheelie World

Don't look at me like that. You started it. :-)
Aaaaaah , happy days
