Can anyone recognise this film?

Please can anyone recognise this film. All I can remember about it is that there was a young girl on some kind of adventure/journey and with her there were "monsters" (friendly ones) that lived off eating paper. Not much to go on I know. It was circa 1983 when I watched it but it was on TV so it could have been made sooner. No one in my family can remember this and the only suggestion anyone ever makes is 'Labyrinth' but I know it's not this because I've seen it since. I'd really like to find out what it was because it's bugged me for years and I'd like to see it again. I know it's a long shot but I would be really grateful for any suggestions received.

Thanks for that but I've had a look at it and it's not it. There were real actors in this film, not puppets. Thank you though.
