X Men 2 Ending

So go on then guys... any theories on what was happening at the very end of X2?

Wasn't it just the BEST EVER??? The opening scene with Nightcrawler was just awesome, I never thought Wolverine could be so exciting, Mystique was just amazing. I am SO impressed!

Now to the question: The bat-like shape beginning to emerge from the water. Well, Jean isn't dead, she can't be. Could Jason be ressurected? Eviler than ever before? I don't know and I can't wait!

I've a vague recollection of an X-Men storyline (in the comic and cartoon series) where Jean Grey is possessed by a phoenix or something? That would explain the glowing bat-like shape coming from the water.

Someone told me that Jean Gray does come back as the Phoenix (as in the Phoenix rising from the ashes), though not sure if that is what is happening at the end, or will indeed happen in the next one. (im sure she will be back in that one though). All i'm waiting for is Gambit and Beast!

Stav, believe or not Beast is briefly featured in X2, though not as his mutant self. There's a news bulletin in the film that features a Dr. Hank McCoy, AKA Beast. The guy who played him apparently provided the voice of Beast in the animanted series as well.
