Glenn Ford

Just read my emails from my TVwestern site and Glenn Ford has died, yesterday I think, he was one of my dad's faves and I know he was well respected. What is your memory of him? I used to watch Cade's County in the 70s and his pic was used in the latest Superman Movie.

My first memory of Glenn Ford was as the liberal minded schoolteacher in "The Blackboard Jungle".Incidentally the film also starred Sidney Poitier as a pupil.Co-incidentally S.P subsequently played a liberal minded schoolteacher in the film" To Sir with Love,"
My second memory of Glenn Ford was in a comedy film (of sorts)called the Sheepman which also starred Shirley Mclaine.All of the above are worth watching.

Like, cucuhullan, I especially remember Mr. Ford in Blackboard Jungle but rarely failed to see any of his western's. He played well with Randolph Scott in the classic The Desperadoes which was probably my favorite, although only seeing it many years later. Scott was a well established actor by this time and Ford was quite young. It was a good pairing for an excellent movie... Ford, although born in Canada, was a U.S. Marine and saw combat in the South Pacific. I appreciated the fact that he was an excellent horseman and did many of his own stunts...
