What is a VOB file?
9 Answers
I have a movie that is classed as a VOB file I want to import it in to windows xp movie maker 2 but it says that the file is not supported.
I assume this is beacuse it is a 'VOB' file what ever that is? Is there a solution to this compatibility problem? Can I somehow change the file type???

After spaced posted I found some free win avi convertor software which I downloaded then converted it from VOB to AVI but it put a tag in the middle so I would have to buy the software bl**dy f**ky thing lol, it said that it was a free short trial of the full programme - "and I'm the Queen Mother!!"
So I hope that there may be a 'free' solution somewhere 'over the rainbow!'
Maybe try EMS86's suggestion as other people our mentioning DVD burning which well I already have so I dont know if that will help??? - sorry if I did not mention this.
Many thanks

You have to open the vob file in DVD2AVI. Then go into File and "Save AVI" and use DivX compressor to compress it and hey presto:D It could take a few hours depending on how big the file is. It will then come up as a windows media file in the file you saved it in. The only trouble is you don't get the sound with a Vob file. I haven't figured out how to do that yet. People have said to me i have to get a dvd audio ripper. I have looked on the web but can't find any free ones. Anyway i hope i helped:D
