She was a right cow. I dont smack my kids if they are naughty, just give them a telling off. She didnt even feel guilty when she watched herself on video. The bloke was just as bad, just because a child wont eat their food, that's no reason to give them a slap. Was quite disgusted with them. That's my view anyway.
Well it's not the done thing these days but I was smacked as a child (and a teenager) and it hasn't done me any harm.
Ooohh, not with a spatula though, just my dad's hand!
Was actually more horrified at the one earlier who was one of the 'never did me any harm' brigade and it then transpired she'd been in prison a couple of times for stealing from an old woman by threatening her with a hammer and also for fraud... clearly it worked for her so she should bring her kids up the same way!
To all the bleeding heart liberal do-gooders out there, consider this. There was a time in this country when children knew their place. They respected authority and didn't question their superiors.

About thirty years ago when the politically correct liberals took over, they decided that teachers must not practice corporal punishment, the local Bobby was no longer to lay so much as a finger on little Johnny let alone give him a clip around the ear, and parents were not to smack their naughty children. Since then, society has been on a downward spiral where children of all ages are completely conversant with their rights but know nothing of their responsibilities.

They know that they can get away with anything in school because teachers' hands are tied. The law cannot touch the because the are seemingly too young to know right from wrong, and parents dare not scold a naughty child for fear of the child phoning the police with allegations of assault.

Too many children today have never been taught discipline and therefore don't know what is expected of them as responsible members of society.

So before you knock those who wish to teach their children discipline, ask yourself if you really think society, and particularly its children, is improving as a result of this crusade to ban smacking.
To add to that, there will always be those who will go too far when smacking their children. No legislation will change that. Remember, we have legislation against murder, rape and armed robbery but these crimes still occur.

Responsible parents, who are in the majority, will use the methods that they think are appropriate to the situation.
Us 'do-gooders' are just loving caring parents who do not wish to inflict pain and hurt on our children by hitting them. There are other ways to discipline a naughty child.
I was appalled by that programme , those parents involved need help to control their aggressive parenting skills. I think sometimes it's the parents that need a good smack!
The whole programme was titled wrong, it should have been called, "Belters". Most of these people didn't smack, they belted or did it because it was the norm. Look at the women with the hammer incident!! How stupid was that, no intelligence at all, she didn't smack!

Smacking is when the child has been told once, maybe twice that if he/she does it again, they will get a smack. A smack being a short sharp tap on the leg or the back of the hand, not a belt, or smack in the mouth or a thump in the face. There is a big difference between the two.

All our family and all my friends were bought up with smacks. For years parents have "smacked" and in those years, funnily enough, there was respect and a line between naughty and dowright disrespectful. How things have changed with the "no smacking" rule. "

School was the same, get really out of hand and you knew the consequences. If you were really naughty at school and the teacher actually had to contact the parent, the parent would punish the child, not go marching up to the school and say "how dare you give my child detention" What message does that send to the child? If my teacher had contacted my parents and said I had been naughty, then my dad would have dished the punishment BIG TIME!

I turned out fine and so did all my friends and whole generations! Except now.

If there is no discipline, the system breaks down.

I watched this and yes I would smack my kids, as I was smacked myself and it really never did any harm. But some of the mothers on there were smacking them at every oppurtunity and swearing with it. It disgusted me. I do think the makers of the programme must be against it because it didnt give a good view on people that smack their kids.
and I agree with eyeshade if there is no discipline the system breaks down. Back in the days where you could hit your kids you hardly saw all these gangs of kids breaking the law. If they arent gonna get any discipline at home then they think the police wont do anything either and they can get away with murder and infact some of them do.
Yes, 4getmenot .....don't know how old you are but when I was a child/teenager, I didn't have access to recreational drugs and in particular, alcopops etc..........and my parents actually cared about my upbringing. Not quite the same today, is it ?
I was smacked as a child and it hasn't done me any harm. Would smack my children if needed but I can reason with them verbally, fortunately.
My hubby was on the train last night. Women with 4 children did nothing but smack and push them and swear at them, which they returned . The eldest was about 10 apparently.
I am 28 and although at the time I used to think it was wrong, I know now I would do and say all the things my mum did to bring me up. She didnt need to swaer and shout at me, but I knew when I had done something wrong, usually because I'd be ruunning up the stairs backwards trying to hide my bum :-) Mum wore the trousers in our house.
i agrree with hammerhead. There was a time when children resepcted there elders but all that seems to of vanished and i find it hard to believe that it's not to do with this attitued that we don't smack are children.I don't think some of the parents were an acurate portrail of average parents who give there child a slap on the leg when they have been very naughty. Some of that treatment was light compared to what i used to get at home and i tell you what i was never in trouble with the police or school cause i was to worried about what my mum would do if she found out. Many a time i could have done something wrong with the influence of my peers but fear of the conciquences(sorry about the spelling) stoppped me every time.
I was smacked as a kid and it hasn't done me any harm....................................................... this Rampton hospital is quite a nice place actually, they say they're gonna take my shackles off soon!
i used to get smacked with in the nood and i did not do me any harm and when i was 19 i still got smacked .i rember 1 time i was smacked all over (most on my bottem )and had i did not do mi any harm at all
