Making sense of Midsomer

Did anyone actually understand the explanation of why the older lady committed the murders in last night's episode? And if you did understand, can you please explain it to me, because I got lost about three sentences in!

Well in a nutshell the old woman in question was the real mother of the now down on the family's luck, ex lord of the manor, having switched her baby and the baby heir during a fire at the manor some 46 years ago. The poor baby heir having died, her substitute baby took his place & priviledges. The father having been a one off with a cad.
The old woman & her gay cousin vicar both had different reasons to expose the truth & therefore had to be silenced!

di1411, your not the only one, I got totally lost aswell. In the end my boyfriend got totally irrate with me as I kept interupting asking what on earth ws going on.

I just could not get into plot so switched off and went to bed.
I was once a big fan of this programme, but it seems to have lost all it's appeal. I noticed that this was the last in the series after being on for only about 4 weeks, I fear that they will not be making a new series. Something in this last series was not up to the usual standard of those past, can anyone put their finger on it?

I have never watched "Midsomer Murders", but whenever I watch an episode / film of Frost or Morse or Miss Marple (etc.) I usually video it and then watch it a second time immediately afterwards so that I can spot the various things I missed, and understand all the convoluted plots better.

Yes there will be more series - expect another 'batch' of four eposides in the new year.
You may , or not lol, be interested to know that the episodes were shown out of order, i.e. the 'last' episode was actually the least but one.
The final episode was shown the week before with DC Jones promoted to Det Sargeant.
