I had a phone line in the office which I interchangably used for fax and (free dialup) internet, so I recently upgraded to broadband so I could connect and use both fax and internet at the same time.

Since the change I have been getting bills for both the original standard BT phone line and the broadband package. The standard line bill states 2.71 cost of calls (fax) and 41.15 service charges-line rental, a total plus VAT of 51.53, and the bills just keep coming.

I cannot understand why they are charging us for both surely when you upgrade you leave the old behind and pay more for the all new better package, not pay both. Some of these bills in question have already been paid by someone in our office and BT just swallowed the money and didn't say anything!!

Please tell me if Im wrong, and Im taking rubbish.

I am not sure I fully understand your question what...the.

You detail the cost of calls, the services and line rental charge etc.... was it your understanding that the broadband package you took was inclusive of the line rental?

No In thought the package was all 'in'. I am receiving two separate bills for one line and the fact they state in the line rental bill that they are charging me for all the calls I make on that line, that can't be right. With broadband you dont pay for individual call usage you pay for an all inclusive fee i.e use it as much as you like for a fixed fee.

The fact they are charging me for usage on my orginal line must show the bill is wrong.
For any help or advice, I think you are going to have to get your BT bill and detail exactly what packages you have and what you are being charged.

If I am reading the BT webpage correctly, business broadband does not entitle you to free telephone calls, nor does it offer free line rental... you pay for line rental, telephone calls, and the broadband service.

BT also offer a service called Business Broadband Voice, in which you can have free calls (made over the internet, or VoIP for up to one hour), but it would appear to be an additional monthly supplement to the line rental and broadband service.
Swap your phone line connection to internet. Use VoIP phone system instead. With the internet you can still use fax without having faxmachine through internet faxing. By using VoIP service bundled with fax will help you to save money that your previous system.
Try to choose a system that integrates all the services to lower your phone and fax cost. I think PBX system with internet faxing can really help you minimizing your budget margins.
