Ghostly music...
I have no idea how to describe the tune I'm looking for but here goes...!
It's the sort of music that might appear in a black and white movie, although it's more of a comical piece of music. It's ghostly, and goes sort of ....
bom bom bom bom blblblblblblbllb bom bom bom bom
(the first "boms" get one note higher each time, the middle bit is two adjacent notes played rapidly and the last boms go down in notes, but slightly faster than the first ones!!!!!)
I don't know how else to describe music in words !!!! But if anyone has any ideas...... :D

However it would be more like:
Dum, dum, dum, dum daaaaaaaaaahhhh! Da-da-da-da (and repeat)
where the daaaaaaaaaahhhh is a trill. In terms of timing, the Dums are a beat each, daaaaaaaaaahhhh is 2 and the da-da-da-da are two.
The dums do ascend but they're ponderous, like someone is trying to walk on tiptoes round a haunted house. It's the sort of thing that you might hear in Scooby Doo or Abbot and Costello Meet The Mummy but it's got the same sort of ubiquity as 'Entry of the Gladiators' has for clowns.
Sorry I can't be more helpful than that, but I do know exactly what you mean!

I know precisely the piece you mean - we play it as part of a medley called 'Tunes that go bump in the night,' but I'm damned if I know what it's called. I only know that when we get to the 'blblblblblblbllb' bit, someone has to scream instead.
I have practice tonight, so if I remember, I'll ask the director.

There is a site you can go to where you can get a list of songs just by tapping the rhythm of the tune on your space bar. It's this
http://www.songtapper.com/s/tappingmain.bin?do tap=1
But I know the piece you mean and I've tried it and nothing relevant came up (it does sometimes...). Having said that I'm not sure it's a piece of music as such, more something pianists just used to use when they were soundtracking silent movies. Like a kind of musical shorthand, but one that wasn't ever "composed" as such, just like the way that little bit at the start of Turning Japanese by the Vapours is musical shorthand that everyone would use for oriental music.
Good luck with your search, anyway.

No prob guys - thanks for all the answers anyway!
I will continue to look - I've been searching on YouTube for some ghost-related Mickey Mouse cartoons in case it appears there .... something like the cartoon "Lonesome Ghosts" has tiny, tiny, tiny snippets incorporated in the soundtrack. I also know it appeared on the intro music to a game called "Phantoms" I had for the BBC-B computer, but don't think I'll be getting hold of that soon!!!
Any success, I'll post back!!
