Analogue Switch Off!!
11 Answers
The Analogue TV signal will be switched off in a few years time.. we will all have to go digital meaning every TV set in our houses will require an individual set top box which currently retail at 20 plus.. (the more TV's you have the more you will have to pay) What I want to know is, why hasn't there been a bigger stronger protest about the big switch off? We should all make stand against this blatent rip off and say no to the switch off!!

I'm old enough to remember 405 lines, 625 lines, black and white to colour, introduction of teletext, so changes have always happened which necessitated changing the TV in some way. Given the choice I will watch digital because the picture is such better quality, and of course, more channels.
Typical scenario....
Its world cup year.. England are playing in the semi-finals against Argentina and its a mid-week match that kicks off at 7.30pm local time. Shift workers get a special dispensation to watch the match as a good will gesture on behalf of their bosses.. (as what happened this year at my place of work) how can they watch cos its no longer broadcast on analogue anymore? It dosnt have to football.. it might be a royal wedding/Mars landing ect.... Will pocket/portable TV's be able to recieve digital?
Also am I the only one who finds Teletext/Ceefax sevice a lot lot quicker that the digital equivilent?
Im all in favour of new technology but surely there is a space to run both systems together..
No doubt in time the government will sell the anologue spaces vacated by the BBC/ITV/C4 to the highest bidder to swell their coffers even more to pay for more pointless wars in the middle east..

Am i not right in thinking that the switch off isnt until 2012 ? A few years away yet? Surely Vortex if you can afford to have multiple Tv's which i presume cost more than 20 you can afford the boxes too? I think thats not a lot to pay in this day and age is it? and look at what you are getting back loads more channels , Radio , interactive stuff etc , is that not worth 20? Hardly a rip off?
I dont think it is paying for channels as once you switch your tv to digital you will receive all free channels as usual unless I am missing something I dont see what the big deal is - when tv moved to colour people just bought a new telly to get the new technology so when you replace your old set you get a compatable tv and in mean time 20 pounds isnt that much - and you do have a choice just dont buy it and dont have a telly! This has been on cards for years I knew about digital switch over about 8 years ago there isnt enough band power now for all channels etc
