Does anyone know why bombay is now called mumbai and when did they change the name?

It always has been called Mumbai or something very similar in the local language(s).

The British came, misheard it a bit, and called in Bombay during their period of rule, and the name stuck for a bit after independence.

It was officially changed back to Mumbai in 1995

It may be Mumbai in India but it should still be Bombay here. We don't call Paris, Paree or Munich, Munchen or any of the others that are known in their language to a different name that we know them by.
